Edoardo Picks Monty's Brains
Article Posted: 1st September 2010
Simon Dyson will not be lining up in this year’s Ryder Cup, but don’t bet against him making it next time.
The brave Yorkshireman made a great effort to force his way into the European side to face America at Celtic Manor this month, but two top 10 finishes in the final qualifying tournaments were not quite enough.
With Edoardo Molinari playing unbelievable golf to birdie the last three holes and win the tournament, Colin Montgomerie was left with as difficult a decision as any captain has ever had.
What Edoardo did was fantastic and could not be overlooked even though there were players higher up the world rankings to select from. So that left Monty with just two and he gave them to Luke Donald and three-time major champion Padraig Harrington.
Which all means that the likes of Paul Casey, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson and several other noteables will not make the trip to the south of Wales. It just goes to show how much talent we have especially when you consider that Casey is in the world’s top 10.
Rumours were circulating this week that Lee Westwood had received a setback in his recovery process from calf muscle problems. Don’t listen to them because Lee is a week ahead of schedule rather than behind it.
Also ahead of schedule for his professional career is a young man you may not have heard of, but you undoubtedly will in the future. James Robinson is a 21-year-old Lancastrian who asked if we could get him a place in a EuroPro tour event at Slaley Hall. He played as an amateur and duly won the event – a victory which convinced him that it was time to try his luck on golf’s big stage.
James has now turned professional and we are delighted that he has decided to join our team at ISM.
